Decor and visual installations are now more important than ever for festival crowds and festival organisers alike. Artists from across the music spectrum including Arcade Fire, Infected Mushroom, Flying Lotus, Squarepusher, Schongle, Bonobo and many more are incorporating stage design and visual installations into their live performances with incredible effects.
For audiences at festivals, concerts, dance and live music events, stage design is now an essential part of the overall experience. Lighting, decoration and elements such as inflatable or fabric structures can elevate a festival or event space way beyond the ordinary and this has been reflected by the increase in eye catching designs and decor at large events and festivals in recent years.
With so many new and diverse festivals and events taking place across the UK and Europe every year, promoters and event planners are starting to realise the importance of, original, creative and stimulating decor. Though the music is still an essential element that attracts audiences and drives ticket sales, the quality of the stage design and decor is often something that transforms an average experience in to something exceptional. Events of all sizes are now using techniques such as stretch fabric canopies, inflatable structures and free standing structures to enhance the audience experience.
Over the last few years we have seen a wide range of indoor and outdoor decor and installations being used at events and festivals. From Egyptian pyramid designs that transform the space into a mystical, ancient landscape full of ornate, ornamental structures to space age silver spirals that spread out above the audience like alien craft. There has also been an increase in the use of 3D mapping, illuminated inflatables and bold, clean lines within stage design.
At this year’s Boomtown festival Visual Architects provided the decor for the Psychedelic Forest. Working with the beautiful existing space at Matterly Bowl, we used our custom designed stretch fabric canopy to compliment the natural splendour of the forest with vibrant colours and patterns. The thousands of festival goers loved the party vibe and positive atmosphere our installation helped to create and so did we.
